Cubs’ Phenom to Make Debut
Chicago Cub pitching phenom Kerry Wood, 20, will make his major league debut today against the Montreal Expos.
Wood, the Cubs’ first pick in the 1995 June draft and the fourth player selected overall, struck out 11 Nashville batters in five innings during his last start for triple-A Iowa on April 7.

An MRI exam on Cincinnati Reds left-hander Steve Cooke showed tendinitis in his throwing elbow.
Cooke, scratched from Wednesday’s start after his elbow tightened during warmups, will be examined daily.
He is tentatively scheduled to start Monday in the series finale against Colorado.
