LeCocq Leads Upset of Righetti, 1-0

A dominating performance by Chaminade High ace Maureen LeCocq helped the Eagles pull off a 1-0 upset of Righetti in a quarterfinal game of the Righetti tournament Tuesday in Santa Maria.

LeCocq out-dueled Jocelyn Forest of Righetti--among the best in the state--striking out 16 and allowing five hits.

Forest (8-1), a 33-game winner last year, threw a three-hitter, struck out four and walked one for Righetti (10-2), ranked No. 2 in the state.

Erin Taylor drove in LeCocq with the game’s only run in the third inning on a fielder’s choice.

Simi Valley 3, Presentation 1--Brittney Green (5-1) threw a three-hitter and struck out 12 in a quarterfinal of the Righetti tournament.

Tied, 1-1, Simi Valley (11-2) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth when Tracie Hall came home on a fielding error with two out.

Newbury Park 4, Thousand Oaks 3--Oli Keohohou scored the winning run from second base in the bottom of the seventh on Tawni Yamauchi’s single in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Westlake 2, Agoura 1--Erin Voeltz (5-5) pitched a three-hitter and singled in Michelle Notaro with the game-winning run during a two-out seventh-inning rally for Westlake (5-6, 1-3) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura (8-5, 2-2).

Quartz Hill 10, Antelope Valley 0--Jodie Cox (10-2-1) allowed one hit and struck out seven in four innings, and also had two doubles, a home run and four RBIs for the Rebels (11-2-1 overall) in a Golden League opener at Quartz Hill.

Calabasas 2, Malibu 0--Amy Rosson (7-3) threw her second no-hitter for Calabasas, striking out 12 and walking one in a Frontier League game at Malibu.

Hoover 1, Glendale 0--Nicole Platt drove in Guinevere Platt with a bases-loaded groundout to second base with one out in the sixth inning to lift Hoover (8-4) in a Pacific League opener at Hoover.

Cori Herbert (8-4) had seven strikeouts in a five-hitter.

Highland 13, Littlerock 0--Kelly Presten (6-2) threw a two-hitter, striking out three, for Highland (12-2) in a Golden League opener at Littlerock that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Crescenta Valley 1, Arcadia 0--Carrie French singled home Laura Schmalen from second with two out in top of the ninth for the Falcons (10-3) in a Pacific League opener at Arcadia.

Village Christian 8, Brethren Christian 1--Jacklyn Aranda (13-1) fired a one-hitter, struck out 15 and had two doubles and drove in four runs for the Crusaders (14-2) in a nonleague game at Village Christian.
