Film director George Sidney will be on hand for a screening and discussion of his splashy 1946 film, “The Harvey Girls,” which starred Judy Garland, Virginia O’Brien and Cyd Charisse as a group of spunky waitresses for the Harvey restaurant chain. The musical also stars Angela Lansbury, John Hodiak and Ray Bolger, and boasts great numbers such as the Oscar-winning “On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe,” and O’Brien’s deadpan rendition of “The Wild, Wild West.”

7:30 am: Family

This year’s Jimmy Stewart Relay Marthon will be the 17th annual event, but the first since the actor died last July. In tribute to the late actor and one-time Air Force colonel, the U.S. Navy Marching Band from San Diego will perform and the Condor Squadron, a group of pilots who fly old military planes out of Van Nuys Airport, will fly over the scene before the start of the run in Griffith Park. Stewart’s friend, actor Robert Wagner, returns as host. The event, which benefits Child and Family Development Center at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, is expected to draw 5,000 runners. The day will also include entertainment, food and a petting zoo.

“Three Days of the Condor,” director Sydney Pollack’s 1975 slick, political thriller, is this year’s pick for the Artist Rights Foundation screening and discussion. The cast of the landmark film--Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Max Von Sydow and Cliff Robertson--is top-notch. American Movie Classics’ Nick Clooney will moderate a discussion with Pollack, cast members and other members of the creative team. The event is part of the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.

All Day: Family

The Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur hosts its annual International Day of the Seal Celebration and Open House. Animals that undergo treatment at the facility will be on view, including the El Nin~o babies of 1998, young seal and sea lion pups that have come to shore in distress because of this year’s weather conditions. There will also be lectures, guest speakers, information booths, refreshments and children’s activities.

4 pm: Celebration

The Pat Longo Super Big Band will swing and the Derby nightclub will give swing dance lessons during the party celebrating the reopening of the gothic-style 72-year-old Shakespeare Bridge in the Franklin Hills section of Los Feliz. The old bridge closed a year ago for a $1.5-million face lift. It will be saluted by attendees wearing 1920-era costumes, a sampling of foods from local restaurants, a vintage car competition and a photography display.

7:30 pm: Jazz

The guitar-covered walls of McCabe’s intimate concert space is the perfect site for this double bill. Expression-wise guitarist Leni Stern (whose husband, former Miles Davis guitarist Mike Stern, played Los Angeles with his band last week) works with the rhythm section of Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip and William Kennedy, better known as the Yellowjackets. Also on the bill is guitarist Will Bernard’s groove and funk-oriented 4-tet, whose recent album “Medicine Hat,” marks a new detente between jazz and soul.
