November Trial Date Set for Fired Lifeguard’s Lawsuit

Share

A Superior Court judge on Friday set a November trial date for a discrimination lawsuit filed by a deaf lifeguard who was fired from the Los Altos YMCA in Long Beach.

Last month, Stacy Adam settled separate suits with the YMCA of Greater Long Beach and the Los Altos YMCA. Terms of those settlements were not disclosed.

Her suit against the YMCA of the USA is scheduled to begin Nov. 4.

Adam had worked for a year as a lifeguard at the Los Altos YMCA when she was fired in 1996 because she is deaf. She can speak and read lips. In her lawsuit, Adam maintains the YMCA of the USA violated California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act.
