The question April 5: Once again, the L.A. City Council is moving to ban commercial vendors on the beach side of the teeming Venice Boardwalk. Who or what should take their place?

Los Angeles Councilman Nate Holden should set up a booth to get support for a Los Angeles professional football team. He’ll have better luck.

Raymond Bates, Marina del Rey

Personally I would like to see the Venice Beach Boardwalk turn into pretty much what the rest of L.A. looks like, with bland, generic, boring, plaster and gypsum storefronts. More power to the City Council to stifle any sort of aliveness to the city.

Go, City Council, Go.

Mobile trucks selling salmonella sandwiches and tainted tacos should also be banned. They make a carnival out of the streets. The trucks add a feasting and edible meaning to “To Live and Die in L.A.”

Marcia Austin, Sierra Madre

Richard Riordan isn’t an appropriate mayor for L.A. He obviously doesn’t understand, appreciate or intend to preserve our city’s diverse character. Leave the Venice vendors alone!

Here’s a radical concept: How about the beach!?!?!
