Johnson’s Contract Extended

Miami Dolphin Coach Jimmy Johnson has agreed to a one-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2000 season.

The exact value of the extension is unclear, because it includes perks such as stock options and compensation for his television and radio show. The deal is believed to be worth between $2.1 million and $2.5 million.

Johnson signed a four-year deal in January 1996 worth $8.2 million per season.

The Green Bay Packers signed guard Doug Widell, saying the move will add depth to their offensive line.

Widell, 31, was released Feb. 20 by the Indianapolis Colts. Terms of the contract weren’t disclosed.

Widell started nine games at left guard for Green Bay in 1993 plus two in the playoffs after four seasons with Denver.

He then spent two seasons with Detroit and two with Indianapolis.
