SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Another outstanding performance from goalkeeper Mike Littman and a short-handed goal in the final two minutes by midfielder Brad Wilson gave the Zodiac its second consecutive victory, 2-1 over Minnesota Wednesday night at UC Irvine.

Littman, who was named the A-League’s player of the week last week, recorded five saves while his team played at a man disadvantage for 66 minutes of the game. Midfielder Mario Sanchez was ejected for tripping Minnesota’s Kevin Anderson on a breakaway.

The Zodiac also was forced to play without starting forward Gustavo Leal, who injured his left knee 14 minutes into the game. Coach Mike Gartlan said Leal is expected to be out for two to three weeks.

“Littman was great again tonight. But like I said last week, our defense isn’t going to give up a lot of goals,” said Gartlan. “I just think we need to be a little more creative on offense.”

Minnesota (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a header by forward Amos Magee. The Zodiac (2-1) tied the score during injury time at the end of the first half. Jeff Patterson, who replaced Leal, headed in a corner kick from forward Eddie Soto.

Wilson scored the game-winner on a rebound.
