Jet-Skier Drowned, Autopsy Indicates

An autopsy conducted Monday shows drowning caused the death of a developmentally disabled Thousand Oaks man in a jet-ski accident this weekend.

Salvador Murillo--who was 31 but had the mental abilities of a 12-year-old, relatives said--was found floating face down about 7:25 a.m. Sunday off Rincon Point.

He had disappeared Saturday afternoon while jet-skiing with family members and friends. Relatives feared he had been stranded and may have died of exposure--a scenario the medical examiner’s office did not rule out.

“The autopsy showed he did, in fact, drown,” said Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens. “We found no evidence of any other injury. If hypothermia was involved, it would have led to a state of unconsciousness, which would have led to the drowning.”
