Billy Campbell, a top development executive at CBS Corp., has been named president of a new group at Miramax Films that will concentrate on television production.

Miramax Television is one of two new divisions formed recently by Miramax. Last month, the studio, owned by Walt Disney Co., hired Tina Brown, former editor of the New Yorker, and Ron Galotti, its former publisher, to launch a new magazine.

“The family of talent at Miramax, the writers, directors, producers and actors, desperately want to get into television,” Campbell said.

A protege of CBS Television President Leslie Moonves for the last 11 years, Campbell joined CBS as executive vice president in July 1995, where he helped develop such shows as “Cosby,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Nash Bridges.” Previously, he was senior vice president of drama development under Moonves at Warner Bros. Television.
