Boy’s Tip Leads to Arrest in Robberies

Share

A boy’s tip to police has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on suspicion of robbing the same Santa Paula market twice in two weeks.

Joe Martin Montes was arrested Tuesday at his house in the 800 block of Ventura Street in Santa Paula after the young witness came forward with extensive information, said Santa Paula Police Sgt. Michael Saviers.

Information about the juvenile was not released to protect the child’s safety. Police would only say that he was not a teenager.

Montes remained jailed Tuesday night in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of robbing La Cuevita Market at 146 S. 8th St. earlier Tuesday and two weeks ago, police said.

A knife allegedly used during both robberies and property that had been stolen from the store were recovered at Montes’ house, police said.
