Yosemite Buses

Share

The bus transit system proposed for Yosemite is one more step taken by the National Park Service to restrict access and use by American citizens. “Yosemite, 5 Counties Agree on Bus Plan” (Aug. 5) left out some important facts. The NPS has systematically removed hundreds of parking spaces in Yosemite, thereby creating and adding to the congestion problem that they now want to fix with a transit system that they don’t have funds for. The “lodging packages” the NPS hopes to develop with surrounding hotels and motels will cater to foreigners and these tours will have priority over U.S. citizens for getting into the park. Unless you can afford the high cost of lodging in Yosemite or the summer rates in the surrounding communities you are out of luck.

The NPS is also proposing drastic reductions in the number of campsites in the valley. This is another maneuver to eliminate an affordable way to enjoy the Yosemite experience.
