Spotlight: Disney Names President of Cable TV Unit

Walt Disney Co. said it promoted Anne Sweeney to president of Disney/ABC Cable Networks, putting her in charge of most of the Burbank company’s cable TV networks. Sweeney, 40, replaces Geraldine Laybourne, who left Disney earlier this year to form an Internet and TV venture. Sweeney will keep her title as president of the Disney Channel and will report to ABC President Robert Iger. She will be in charge of all of Disney’s cable networks, except ESPN, as well as ABC’s Saturday morning programming.
