Sinatras, Real and Imagined, Will Recall a Remarkable Life

It’s a doo-be-doo-be-doo weekend for all Frank Sinatra fans.

First up is HBO’s “The Rat Pack,” Saturday at 9 p.m. Ray Liotta, Joe Mantegna and Don Cheadle headline the movie, which deals with the friendship between Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. during the time they campaigned for John F. Kennedy in 1960.

On Sunday at 8 p.m., KCET-TV Channel 28 repeats the terrific “Frank Sinatra: The Very Good Years,” which features clips from the Chairman of the Board’s TV specials.

Olympic champion gymnasts Kerri Strug and Mitch Gaylord guest on ABC’s “Push,” at 8 p.m. on Channel 7.

Friday

“Cirque Ingenieux,” at 9 p.m. on Channel 28, weaves the tale of a girl who is enthralled with a circus. Her story is told through visual effects and the music of Kitaro.

Emmy Award winner Chris Rock returns for the third season of his HBO late-night series, “The Chris Rock Show,” at 11:30 p.m.

Saturday

Rebecca Kolls offers tips on planting bulbs, fertilizing and lawn care for the fall on “Rebecca’s Garden: The Harvest Season,” at 11 a.m. on Channel 2.

Nickelodeon’s “Toons From Planet Orange,” at noon, features eight animated shorts from around the world.

NBC presents the “U.S. Gymnastics Championships,” at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. Al Truatwig and Tim Daggett call the action from Indianapolis.

KCOP telecasts the “Great American Concert” on “Live From the Hollywood Bowl,” at 8:30 p.m. Syliva McNair and Tracey Welborn perform classics penned by George and Ira Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.

The Movie Channel offers “Brother Against Brother,” the third installment in “John Woo’s Once a Thief” action franchise, at 9 p.m.

The self-proclaimed “king of all media” tries to conquer Saturday late-night television with his new syndicated series, “The Howard Stern Show,” at 11:35 p.m. on Channel 2.

Sunday

Gardening guru Jerry Baker hosts three new “Jerry Baker Gardening Specials,” from noon to 3 p.m. on Channel 28.

TBS kicks off a new season of “National Geographic Explorer” at 4 p.m., with a show that looks at Florida’s wild fires, avalanches in the Alps and landslides.

Danny Glover visits host James Lipton on Bravo’s “Inside the Actors Studio,” at 5 and 9 p.m.

TBS’ “Killer Weather,” at 6 p.m., chronicles the dreadful atmospheric conditions of 1998.

The Learning Channel’s “Storm of the Century,” at 6 and 9 p.m., examines what happened when three big storms collided off the coast of New England in 1991.

Danny Aiello, Dom DeLuise, Paul Sorvino and Susan Lucci celebrate the Italian way of life on “The Italian Americans II: A Beautiful Song,” at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 28.

Jon Patrick Walker, Eddie McClintock and Jennifer Westfeldt star in the new Fox comedy “Holding the Baby,” at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 11. In this sitcom, a young father is forced to raise his infant son after his wife moves to Tibet with another man.

Later on Fox at 8:30 is another new series, “That ‘70s Show,” which takes a comedic look at several 17-year-olds growing up in Wisconsin in 1976. Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson and Ashton Kutcher star.

Fox offers an original episode of “The Simpsons” at 8 p.m. on Channel 11, in which Homer gets Bart involved in a get-rich-quick scheme.

VH1 premieres the two-hour documentary “Endless Harmony: The Beach Boys and the Music,” at 9 p.m. The special features interviews and vintage clips.

E! Entertainment Television serves up “Tommy Lee: The E! True Hollywood Story,” at 8 p.m.

Laura Dern, Richard Lineback, Stockard Channing and Peter Riegert star in Jane Anderson’s drama “The Baby Dance,” at 9 p.m. on Showtime. Executive-produced by new mother Jodie Foster, the drama deals with a childless couple who are supposed to adopt a poor woman’s baby.
