Auditions Scheduled for ‘The Nutcracker’
A local ballet company will hold open auditions Saturday for its 19th annual production of “The Nutcracker.”
Set to begin in early December, the production by Channel Islands Ballet Company is expected to have heavy local participation, said Suzanne Drace, the company’s vice chairwoman.
Last year, 100 amateurs of all ages formed the core of the Christmas performance, Drace said. A handful of professionals also took part.
Auditions begin at 11 a.m. at the Oxnard College dance studio, which is in the physical education gymnasium center at 4000 S. Rose Ave.
Children 6 and older are encouraged to apply. The company will also need adults for the production.
Audition times are 6- and 7-year-olds at 11 a.m.; 7- and 8-year-olds at noon; 9- to 12-year-olds at 1 p.m.; intermediate / advanced ballet dancers at 3 p.m.; and dancers chosen for pointe at 4:30 p.m. Call 648-4430 for more information.
