Mobile Homes Target of Inspection Scam

Share

Law enforcement authorities are warning mobile home residents to be alert for people posing as Federal Emergency Management Agency agents who claim to be conducting follow-up inspections of repairs prompted by the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Laura D. Hernandez of the county Office of Emergency Services issued the warning Friday. It came after residents of a Santa Paula mobile home park reported that people claiming to be FEMA representatives had contacted them about inspecting seismic bracing under their coaches, authorities said. The people then told the mobile home park residents they needed additional work for a fee.

The governor’s emergency services office has told the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department there are no FEMA workers conducting Northridge quake-related inspections in Ventura County, Hernandez said.
