CLU Offers Master’s of Education
A master’s of education program will soon be offered through Cal Lutheran University’s School of Education.
The university’s first class of master’s of education students will begin this fall.
Students enrolling in the Teacher Preparation Program can get the master’s by staying in school or by completing a three-course program once they are teaching.
Classes will focus on educational measurement and methods of research and will include completion of a classroom-based research project in lieu of a traditional thesis.
“It’s turning out to be quite a popular option,” said Carol Bartell, dean of the School of Education.
One reason the program is appealing: Teachers with a master’s degree are eligible for higher salaries, Bartell said.
“Essentially, we felt that it was more attractive for students to go on to show that they have a master’s degree,” she said.
Applications are being accepted for the spring semester.
