Los Robles Trail Cleanup Scheduled

Share

Hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers and others are encouraged to show their support of the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency’s trail system by participating in the group’s eighth annual Trail Work Day scheduled for Oct. 17.

This year’s event is considered particularly important due to extensive damage that some trails sustained during the winter storms.

Especially hard hit is the Los Robles Trail, between Potrero Road in Newbury Park and Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks. This year’s work day is expected to focus on the trail section, which is used more than any other trail in the conservation agency.

The staging area to catch a bus to various work areas will be at the Conejo Community Center at 1300 Hendrix Ave. at picnic areas 1 and 3. Volunteers are urged to be at the staging area no later than 7:30 a.m., with trail work scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Rangers and qualified trail crew leaders will supervise work crews.

A free barbecue lunch sponsored by Thousand Oaks City Councilman Andy Fox and presented by the Conejo Open Space Trails Advisory Committee will be provided. Volunteers will also receive trail snacks and a map of the agency’s trails.

An interpretive hike and trail cleanup in the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden adjacent to Conejo Community Park will also be offered to parents and children.

The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency is a shared-use public back-country of nearly 10,000 acres with more than 50 miles of trails.
