Chen-Olsen, Pearson Reach Southern Final in Riverside

Linda Chen-Olsen of Granada Hills and Linda Pearson of La Canada won semifinal matches Thursday in the 97th annual Southern Championship at The Victoria Club in Riverside and will play today in the final.

Pearson defeated Joan Higgins of Glendora, 3 and 2, in her semifinal and Olsen beat Candace Meyers of Glendora by the same score.

Reservations are being accepted for the College of the Canyons Celebrity Golf Classic Nov. 16 at Valencia Country Club, site of the 1998 Nissan Open.

Todd Zeile, a Hart High graduate and third baseman for the Texas Rangers, and his wife Julianne McNamara, an Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics, are the honorary chairpersons.

Major league players Eric Karros, Jeff Cirillo and Billy Ashley were among the celebrities who played last year.

Proceeds benefit Canyons and the Special Olympics of Southern California.

The sixth annual Tallyrand restaurant tournament benefiting the Boys’ and Girls’ clubs of Burbank is set for Oct. 10 at Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia.

Cost for the four-person scramble is $80 per person and includes green fees, cart, a hat and dinner. Raffles will be conducted.

Registration forms are available at Tallyrand restaurant in Burbank. Deadline is Sept. 23.

The 16th annual Academy of Country Music Bill Boyd Celebrity Golf Classic, hosted by country music star Glen Campbell, is Oct. 12 at De Bell Golf Course in Burbank.

Last year the event raised $120,000 for the T.J. Martel Foundation for cancer, AIDS and leukemia research for children, the Neil Bogart Memorial Laboratory, the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital for crippled children and the Bill Boyd Memorial Fund.
