Authorities arrested four men Wednesday in connection with the shooting of an 81-year-old woman in an unincorporated area near Whittier.

As of early evening, only one of the men, whose names were not immediately released, had been charged with attempted murder after Sunday’s shooting of Mary Ann Bramlett, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Jeff Grant said. Charges are pending against the three others.

Bramlett was returning home from playing bridge about 11 p.m. Sunday when she stopped at a red light at Pioneer and Washington boulevards, authorities said.

Two companions who were in her car later told investigators that a tan four-door car suddenly appeared from behind and barreled through the intersection at high speed, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Det. Jeff Grant.

Moments later, another car pulled up beside Bramlett’s car and shot her in the left temple. She was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition, Grant said.
