Three vehicles, one of them a school bus, tangled on the eastbound Riverside Freeway on Thursday afternoon, injuring two people and tying up traffic for 2 1/2 hours.

The accident occurred about 6 p.m. just east of Lakeview Avenue in Anaheim, said Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. He described the incident as a chain reaction in which a Volkswagen Jetta slowed and was hit from behind by the school bus. The third vehicle, a van, then plowed into the bus.

All three vehicles were damaged, Reeves said, especially the van. The front of the vehicle caved in, trapping the driver inside. After being freed by rescue personnel using heavy equipment, Reeves said, the driver was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with moderate injuries.

A 16-year-old girl--one of 14 people in the bus--suffered minor scrapes and cuts. Reeves said she was treated at the scene.

No one in the Jetta was injured, he said.

The accident is under investigation, Reeves said.
