Mail That Package Sunday

Attention, holiday shoppers.

In a first for the U.S. Postal Service, selected branches in Orange County will be open Sunday for mailing of holiday letters, cards and packages. The added day will give customers a jump on Monday, expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year.

“This is the first time in Orange County that we’ve ever been open on a Sunday,” Postal Service spokesman Richard Maher said. “We’ll be open seven days a week between now and Christmas Eve.”

Some other post offices are extending their hours.

More than 4.5 billion cards, letters and packages are expected to be mailed nationwide this holiday season, with an estimated 280 million cards and letters mailed on Monday alone.

Here are the post offices that will be open Sunday and Dec. 20:

* Huntington Center Mall, 7777 Edinger Ave., Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sundays 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* Santa Ana Processing Center, 3101 W. Sunflower Ave., Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Westminster Mall, 1025 Westminster Mall, Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Branches with extended hours through Dec. 24:

* Anaheim Hills Station, 5505 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Anaheim Main Post Office, 701 N. Loara St., weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Bay Station, 191 Riverside Ave., Newport Beach, Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Fountain Valley Post Office, 17227 Newhope St., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Huntington Beach Main Office, 6771 Warner Ave., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Ida Jean Haxton Station, 9151 Atlanta Ave., Huntington Beach, Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mission Viejo Post Office, 28081 Marguerite Parkway, weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Rancho Santa Margarita, 29851 Aventura, Suite K, Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Santa Ana Post Office, 2201 N. Grand Ave., weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Trabuco Canyon Post Office, 30595 Trabuco Canyon Road, Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Westminster Main Post Office, 15030 Goldenwest Circle, Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
