Web Site Celebrates Culture in California

Share

Those who insist there is no culture in California need look no further than California Culture.Net, a Web site launched last week during the 1998 Governor’s Conference on the Arts.

The site, at https://www.californiaculture.net, aims to be a comprehensive guide to all things cultural in the Golden State. Its heart is an events calendar, which arts organizations can contribute to and arts lovers can search. For those in need of a quick art fix, the “studio” has links to online galleries and performance space (plus a separate gallery space for kids).

California Culture.Net also has articles about cultural issues (one of the main topics is corporate support for the arts), pages about nonprofit resources available to arts organizations and information about careers in the arts.

The site was inspired by Los Angeles Culture Net (https://home.LACN.org/LACN), the local arts resources guide launched by the Getty Information Institute two years ago. California Culture.Net was financed by a $100,000 donation from AT&T; and the Getty, with at least an equivalent amount of resources donated by others.
