Burlington to Donate $100,800

Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. said it will donate $100,800 to a humane society to help end the slaughter of dogs and cats for fur-trimmed clothes. Earlier this week, the largest U.S. coat-seller recalled coats trimmed with dog hair.

Burlington said it would work with the Washington, D.C.-based Humane Society of the United States to push for federal legislation requiring labeling of all fur products and banning imports of dog and cat fur. The company said it would have petitions addressed to Congress in all its stores for customers to sign.

“We are redoubling our efforts to make sure this does not happen again,” the company said in a statement.

Burlington also said it will check the labels of all fur products it orders and require a certificate of authenticity from its suppliers.
