Couple to Face Charges in School Embezzlement

A former Boyle Heights school principal and her husband, an internal affairs investigator for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, must face charges of income tax fraud and grand theft, a judge ruled Thursday.

Municipal Judge David M. Horwitz ruled that Angelita and Herman Trevizo must appear Dec. 31 for arraignment in Superior Court, according to a California Franchise Tax Board spokesman.

Both are accused of three counts of filing false income tax reports and one count of grand theft in connection with the alleged embezzlement of $58,544.43 from Dolores Mission School.

Angelita Trevizo, 50, is alleged to have opened unauthorized bank accounts on behalf of the school, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Allan Fork.

She allegedly diverted tuition payments made to the parochial school into the account and then had checks made out to her husband, Fork said.

Herman Trevizo, 51, a sheriff’s sergeant, used at least some of the money for mortgage payments on the couple’s house, Fork said.

Also facing the same charges is Isabel Cortez, a former secretary at the school, Fork said.
