Simi Valley 67, Brandon (Fla.) 64--Brett Michel scored seven of his 18 points, including three of four free throws, in the fourth quarter and the Pioneers (5-0) held on in a first-round game of the Great Florida Shootout in Kissimmee, Fla.

Michel made seven of 12 shots . Branduinn Fullove scored 18 points, making seven of 12 shots and seven of eight free throws. Rafael Berumen overcame early foul trouble to finish with 16 points and 13 rebounds for Simi Valley, top-ranked in the region.

Joey Graham had a game-high 20 points for Brandon.

The Pioneers will play Edgewater High of Orlando, Fla., in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Washington College Academy (Tenn.) 75, Sylmar 66--John Valdez made three of five three-point shots and scored 13 points for Sylmar in a first-round game of the Las Vegas Holiday tournament at Cimarron-Memorial High.

T.K. Reed made six of eight shots and finished with 13 points for Sylmar (5-2), which made only eight of 21 free throws.

Washington College Academy improved to 12-0.

Cimarron-Memorial 67, Harvard-Westlake 63--Russell Lakey and Alex Holmes each made five of 10 shots for Harvard-Westlake (3-4) in a first-round game of the Las Vegas Holiday tournament.

Lakey finished with 17 points and Holmes scored 14. Each made two three-point baskets. Holmes grabbed 11 rebounds.

Brian Lang had 23 points and 10 rebounds for host Cimarron-Memorial (5-3).

Newbury Park 66, Eldorado 56--Jesse Roche made five three-point shots and finished with 19 points for Newbury Park (5-2) in a first-round game of the Las Vegas Holiday tournament at Durango High.

Roche was seven of 12 from the field. Newbury Park, ranked No. 5 in the region, got 12 points from Brian Bobik and 10 from Nick Czernek.

Hueneme 55, Poly 49--Dwight Norman made four free throws in the last 20 seconds for Hueneme (2-5) in a first-round game of the Westlake tournament.

Robert Luna had 21 points for Hueneme and Norman had 12.

Patrick McFarland had 15 points for Poly (3-5).
