A 26-year-old man was driven to a residential neighborhood Sunday afternoon by two men, shot several times and left to die in the street, police said. The crime was not believed to be gang related.

Authorities responding to a report of gunshots at 12:30 p.m. discovered the man in the 8100 block of Troost Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Det. Mike Coffey. The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead 15 minutes later.

“We believe he was brought to that location in a car, shot and killed there,” Coffey said. “Then he was left in the street to die.”

Coffey added that the crime did not appear to be gang related and that the victim was not a gang member.

“He does not live in the area,” he said. “We don’t know why he was in the area.”

At least two neighbors reported hearing gunfire.

“I heard three shots, but I didn’t see anything,” said a resident who asked not to be identified. “I’ve heard shots before around here, but I’ve never actually seen that there was a dead body like today.”

Police said they were looking for two suspects who left the scene in a small white car.
