Cal’s New Arena Behind Schedule
Construction of California’s new Haas Pavilion is behind schedule and won’t be complete in time for next season’s men’s and women’s basketball games.
That means the Bears men’s team will play another full season at the New Arena in Oakland, and the women will again play at Kaiser Arena in Oakland.
The delay in completion of the 12,100-seat Haas Pavilion has been charged to a delay in beginning construction, according to Cal’s athletic director, John Kasser.
“We had to rebid on the steel because of prices and it cost us three months. We just started three months later. But construction is on schedule,” he said.
Kasser predicts Cal’s new home will be completed in April 1999.
