Public Works Director Gets Garden Grove Job

Citing the need to spend more time with his family, the city’s director of public works has announced that he will resign.

Les M. Jones will step down March 8 to become director of the public works department in Garden Grove, a smaller city that he said will allow him more time out of the office.

Jones, 44, who has been director for more than three years, developed and staffed the city’s Public Works Commission. He also played a key role in the city’s efforts to cope with county’s bankruptcy by contracting out the department’s services to nearby cities.

“The decision to leave Huntington Beach has been one of the toughest career decisions I have had to make,” Jones said. “But I have a young family and I need to balance my professional life with my personal life.”
