It’s a good thing these No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchups don’t happen too often along Tobacco Road.

Just days after Michael Jordan’s retired jersey was stolen from the rafters of the Dean Smith Center, a thief or thieves have managed to make off with a few items from Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s office.

Duke police say a signed poster of the 1992 U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team and six pairs of Duke game shorts were discovered missing from Krzyzewski’s office Thursday morning.

Police have no suspects in either robbery and have not said they believe students are responsible. However, in the buildup to previous big games between the two rivals, everything from mascots to arena banners have been stolen.

Hawaii Coach Riley Wallace is taking two weeks off on the recommendation of his doctor, Athletic Director Hugh Yoshida said.

Wallace became dizzy and disoriented Wednesday night during the Rainbows’ 76-67 loss to San Diego State.

Wallace underwent surgery Jan. 29 to fix a blocked coronary artery. He was released from the hospital the following day and coached the Rainbows the day after that against San Jose State.

“The priority here is Riley’s health,” Yoshida said. “We all feel maybe Riley tried to do too much, too soon after his surgery. Hopefully, now he can get some rest and concentrate on getting well.”

Assistant coach Bob Nash will run the team during Wallace’s absence.
