Women’s Day Has Evolved
Today marks the 12th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This commemorative day was established by the Women’s Sports Foundation in 1987, when it paid tribute to late volleyball player Flo Hyman.
Since then, the event has evolved into a day of nationwide activities designed to bring attention to the achievements of female athletes and issues facing females in sports.
As part of this year’s local celebration, the WNBA’s Sparks will present a girls’ basketball clinic from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Oshman’s SuperSports Store in Irvine.
