Police are asking the public for help in finding a hit-and-run driver believed to be responsible for the death of a 69-year-old woman struck in a crosswalk.

Beverly Wilke of San Gabriel was hit about 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of West Las Tunas Boulevard. She later died at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Police Chief David Lawton said Friday.

“The suspect vehicle was seen pulling to the side of the road momentarily, and then fled the scene without rendering aid,” he said.

Police said the vehicle may be a 1988-89 Ford LTD Crown Victoria, possibly gray or tan, with some damage to the windshield and front end. The car left debris and may have been videotaped by a bank camera, police said.
