No team has had as much success against Indiana in recent years as Purdue. Now no coach has as many victories against Bob Knight as Gene Keady.

Chad Austin and Brad Miller each scored 23 points Tuesday night as the eighth-ranked Boilermakers (21-4, 9-2) overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half and held off a late rally to defeat Indiana, 94-89, in a Big Ten game at West Lafayette, Ind.

“We wanted to outhustle them because we felt they outhustled us down at their place, and I think we accomplished that,” Keady said, referring to the Boilermakers’ six-point loss in Bloomington last month.

This time, despite poor shooting and the loss of Jaraan Cornell (sprained ankle) three minutes into the game, the Boilermakers kept the pressure on the Hoosiers throughout.

It was Purdue’s fifth victory in the last six games against the Hoosiers and a record 18th victory for Keady against Knight. Former Michigan State coach Jud Heathcote had 17 victories against Knight and the Hoosiers.

The Boilermakers, 21-4 overall and 9-2 in the Big Ten, took advantage of 16 first-half Indiana turnovers to take a four-point lead at the intermission and pulled away to a 13-point lead midway through the second half.

Indiana (16-7, 7-4) rallied behind Andrae Patterson, who had 21 of his season-high 27 points in the second half, and the Hoosiers tied the game 74-74 on a basket by A.J. Guyton.

Austin then made two consecutive baskets to put Purdue ahead for good.

No. 2 Duke 86, Florida State 72--Trajan Langdon scored 18 points and the Blue Devils (22-2, 11-1) shot 59% in the first half en route to an Atlantic Coast Conference victory over the mistake-prone Seminoles (16-9, 5-7) at Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils, playing for the third time in six days, took a half-game lead over No. 1 North Carolina in the ACC regular-season title chase.

Corey Louis had 16 points for Florida State, which committed 15 turnovers in the first half to fall behind by 25 points as the Blue Devils closed the half with a 22-4 run.

Georgia 86, No. 12 Arkansas 70--Freshman Jumaine Jones had 27 points and 17 rebounds--both season highs--at Athens, Ga., and the Bulldogs (12-11, 4-7) ended the Razorbacks’ winning streak at six games in a Southeastern Conference game. Arkansas fell to 20-4, 9-2.

Georgia also got 14 second-half points from long-range shooter Derrick Dukes, who made his first four three-point attempts.

After Arkansas’ Pat Bradley made two free throws for a 62-62 tie with 8:45 to play, Georgia went on a 16-2 run over the next 4:22 to put the game out of reach.

No. 20 Massachusetts 74, Duquesne 68--Lari Ketner had 23 points and eight rebounds at Pittsburgh as the Minutemen (18-6, 10-1) beat the Dukes (10-14, 4-7) for the 11th consecutive time in an Atlantic 10 Conference game.

The Minutemen, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, also tied a league record by posting their ninth consecutive season with at least 10 conference wins. Temple set the mark from 1983-84 to 1991-92.

No. 23 Syracuse 72, Miami 63--Jason Hart had 19 points for the Orangemen (18-5, 8-4), who beat the Hurricanes (15-6, 8-5) at Miami to take over first place in the Big East 7.

Miami, which lost at home for the first time in six conference games, fell into second place.

No. 25 Rhode Island 69, No. 17 George Washington 61--Cuttino Mobley scored 25 points and Luther Clay added 19 as the Rams (18-5, 9-2) celebrated their return to the Top 25 with an Atlantic 10 victory over the Colonials (20-4, 9-2) at Washington.

Mobley and Clay helped Rhode Island control the second half, as the Rams used a 23-6 run triggered by an uptempo game and strong defense to unsettle the Colonials. George Washington never got closer than six points afterward.

Rutgers (15-7, 11-3 Big East) used a late spurt to come from behind and stun No. 2 Connecticut (23-2, 13-1), 74-70, in Piscataway, N.J., becoming only the second Big East team in five years to beat the perennial conference powerhouse.

The Huskies had their Big East winning streak ended at 53 games. Top-ranked Tennessee is the only other team to beat Connecticut this season.
