Fillmore is getting a new chief of police.

Capt. Christopher Godfrey will replace Capt. Dick Diaz as head of the Fillmore enforcement division of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Fillmore contracts with the Sheriff’s Department for police services.

Godfrey, 43, previously was assistant police chief in Thousand Oaks. Diaz, who had been in charge of the Fillmore division since 1993, has been reassigned to oversee the Main Jail, Capt. Keith Parks said.

Before his duties in Thousand Oaks, Godfrey was in charge of the Todd Road Jail for two years. Before that, he ran the Ventura County Sheriff’s Academy in Camarillo.
