California Highway Patrol officers asked for the public’s help Thursday in finding the driver of a white Ford van who ran over an 18-month-old girl in East Los Angeles, severely injuring the toddler.

Jasmine Flores was listed in critical but stable condition in an incubator at County-USC Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“We are checking her for possible internal head injuries,” said spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda, who added that the girl suffered scrapes but no visible head injuries.

The toddler chased a ball into the road in the 3800 block of Hammel Street and was struck about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, said CHP Officer Bill Preciado.

The van, which had two rolls of carpet hanging out its rear doors headed west on Record Avenue, Preciado said. Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the van or the identity of the driver should call Officers John Castro or Chris Kelly at (213) 980-4600 or the CHP’s toll-free number, (888) 424-7211.
