Even the weather couldn’t upstage David Duval’s second round in the Tucson Chrysler Classic at Tucson.

Rain that later forced postponement of the round for half the 144-player field held off Friday morning while Duval carded a two-eagle, seven-birdie masterpiece of 10-under-par 62--the best ever on the 7,148-yard Tucson National course.

His round left him at 16-under 128 and matched John Huston for the lowest for 36 holes on tour this year. It also was the second-lowest 36-hole halfway score in tournament history.

Duval said the realization that he’s in a zone doesn’t rattle him the way it might some golfers.

“I try to free it up a little more, get a little more aggressive, actually, because you know things are going pretty good,” he said. “So I just try to get after it and kind of keep the heat on it.”

First-day leader Justin Leonard and Scott Hoch, Duval’s playing partners, were seven shots back. Hoch had a 66 in the second round, and Leonard carded a 70.

Steve Pate was eight shots behind, with 1994 winner Andrew Magee and David Toms at 137. Tom Lehman and Mark Calcavecchia were seven under on the front nine when play was suspended.

Huston, who set a PGA record last week by winning the Hawaiian Open at 28 under, also made a move with a second-round 66 that left him six under--still 10 shots off Duval’s pace.

The 72 players who failed to complete the round will finish this morning, and after the cut the third round will begin in early afternoon.
