A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at a Darby Street residence, police said.

James Beck of Simi Valley was arrested about 10 hours after 37-year-old Raymond Hamilton was found sprawled in an apartment complex hallway with stab wounds in his upper body, said Simi Valley Sgt. Andrew McCluskey.

Investigators said Hamilton had been visiting Beck’s former girlfriend, Margaret Brockert, at her apartment in the 3300 block of Darby Street when Beck burst in.

Beck and Hamilton fought, McCluskey said, and Beck fled. Hamilton staggered out of the apartment and collapsed. Police found him in the hallway shortly before 3 a.m.

Investigators learned that Beck was living at a residence in the 2600 block of Prather Street, but he wasn’t there when they arrived. About 1:10 p.m., Simi Valley patrol officers discovered Beck beside railroad tracks near the 1500 block of Rory Lane, McCluskey said.

Hamilton was taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit Saturday night, a spokeswoman said.
