An alleged drunk driver has been arrested on suspicion of murder for hitting a 6-year-old Pasadena girl and dragging her 150 feet, police said Sunday.

Annette DeGange, 35, of Pasadena was arrested Saturday evening shortly after the 1993 Ford Escort she was driving hit the girl, police said.

The incident occurred in the crosswalk on North Lake Avenue at Atchison Street at 6:10 p.m.

The child, whose name was not released, was walking behind her mother when she was hit.

She was rushed to Huntington Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She underwent surgery, but was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

DeGange, who was being held without bail, may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

“The primary indications are that she was driving while intoxicated,” Pasadena Police Lt. Darryl Qualls said.

Qualls said a breath test was conducted on De Gange, but that blood-alcohol results would not be released due to the severity of the case.

DeGange is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
