Bob Knight has made headlines with tirades and chair-throwing. Yet this time he was subdued. What could he say?

Knight watched helplessly Sunday as Jerod Ward had a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds and No. 22 Michigan defeated Indiana, 112-64, at Ann Arbor, Mich, the most points ever allowed by a Hoosiers team coached by Knight.

“If you asked our players, they couldn’t give you an answer as to what happened,” Knight said. “It looked like we made no effort to prepare for the game, neither the players nor the coaches.”

It was only the second time in 132 games between the schools that Michigan, 19-8 overall and 9-5 in the Big Ten, had scored over 100 points against the Hoosiers (18-8, 9-5). The other was on March 7, 1970.

Louis Bullock scored 26 points and Robert Traylor had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines, who shot 62%. Michigan hit a school-record 15 three-pointers.

Larry Richardson scored 13 points for the Hoosiers, who shot 33% and turned the ball over 14 times, eight on steals.

No. 8 Kentucky 85, Georgia 74--Nazr Mohammed scored 16 points to lead five Wildcats in double figures at Lexington, Ky.

Georgia (14-12, 6-8 in the Southeastern Conference) made 15 of 28 shots in building a 43-36 halftime lead, but made only six of 32 shots (19%) over the final 20 minutes against Kentucky’s full-court pressure.

Heshimu Evans had 15 points for Kentucky (24-4, 12-2), which shot 55%.

Mohammed also pulled down 11 rebounds in recording his eighth double-double of the season and giving Kentucky a decisive 47-30 advantage on the boards.

No. 20 West Virginia 81, Seton Hall 71--All five members of the Mountaineers’ all-senior starting lineup scored in double figures at Morgantown, W. Va.

West Virginia (22-5, 11-5 in the Big East) led, 54-41, midway through the second half.

But Seton Hall pulled within six points three times in the closing minutes.

The Mountaineers were nine of 10 from the foul line during the final 1:11 to hold the lead.

Jarrod West led the Mountaineers with 20 points and Greg Jones scored 19.

Donnell Williams had 19 points for Seton Hall (13-13, 7-9), which has lost four in a row to West Virginia.

No. 23 Illinois 79, Iowa 72--Jerry Hester scored 20 points and the Illini kept alive their hope for a share of the Big Ten title at Champaign, Ill.

Michigan State, 13-2 in conference games, clinched at least a share of the regular-season championship. The Illini (20-8, 12-3) plays at Indiana on Tuesday, and Michigan State faces Purdue on Saturday.

Illinois outscored Iowa, 15-6, over the last 6 1/2 minutes.

Ricky Davis led the Hawkeyes (18-9, 7-7) with 18 points.

Temple 56, No. 24 George Washington 49--Lamont Barnes had 20 points and seven blocked shots at Washington D.C., and the Owls won their seventh consecutive game.
