LONG BEACH STATE MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
* County connections: Sean Callahan and Ryan Mariano of El Toro, Ed Ratledge of Fountain Valley, Jim Polster of Dana Hills, Chris Shay of Irvine Valley College, Curtis Jackson of Tustin and Golden West College, Dave McKienzie of Huntington Beach and Chris Seiffert of Capistrano Valley.
* Worth noting: Seiffert is averaging 17.3 assists for Long Beach (9-3, 3-3 in conference play). Last Friday in a victory at No. 4 Hawaii, Polster had 27 kills, eight digs and six blocks.
* Appearing locally: Long Beach hosts UC Irvine March 28.
PEPPERDINE MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
* County connections: Chris Jacobson of El Toro, Kurt Nelson and Peter Kodascy of Laguna Beach.
* Worth noting: Jacobson, a senior middle blocker, leads Pepperdine (9-1) in blocks and hitting percentage. Pepperdine is ranked second in the nation.
* Appearing locally: Pepperdine plays at UC Irvine April 7.
PORTLAND WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
* County connections: Cathy Cook of Irvine High
* Worth noting: Cook, a freshman middle blocker, was named the team’s most valuable player and freshman of the year in the West Coast Conference. Cook led the team in several categories, including kills and blocks.
