USC Men Sweep Past Northridge

Despite 24 kills and six digs by Chad Strickland, Cal State Northridge was swept by USC, 15-13, 15-2, 15-7, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball match Tuesday night at USC.

The Matadors (3-9, 1-9 in conference play) got 15 kills and 10 digs from opposite hitter Junior Mosones, and Adam Black added seven kills.

Szilard Kovacs had 19 kills and Omar Rawi finished with 15 kills and three blocks for the Trojans (4-9, 2-8).

USC rallied to win the first game after Northridge blew leads of 10-1 and 12-3. The Trojans scored 12 of the last 13 points in the first game, then scored the first 13 points of the second.

Northridge took a 4-0 edge in the third game, but USC rallied from a 7-6 deficit to score the last nine points of the match.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Lutheran 83, Redlands 58--Brandie Murrish made all six of her shots and scored 18 points to help the Regals win for the 14th time in 15 games.

Nicole Sanchez scored 15 points and Kate Carpenter added 12 for Cal Lutheran (16-7, 11-1).

Sonia Delgado scored 18 points for Redlands (15-9, 5-6).

The Master’s 76, Chapman 55--Elizabeth Hansell had 24 points and eight rebounds, and Corinne Wiseman added 18 points and six rebounds for the Mustangs (10-18) in a nonconference victory at The Master’s.

Kasey Downer added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Mustangs, who held the Panthers (16-9) to 33% shooting and outrebounded them, 47-36.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Cal Lutheran 6, Biola 3--Kaarin Benson and Heather Szabo accounted for three of Cal Lutheran’s six points in a nonconference match at Biola (0-5).

Playing No. 1 doubles for the Regals (2-3), the pair defeated Samantha Navarro and Alicia Swenson, 8-0.

Benson downed Navarro, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 1 singles while Szabo disposed of Kari Bartlett, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
