Woman Arrested in Her Son’s Abduction
A former Ventura County woman was arrested in Texas on suspicion of illegally snatching her child and moving from the area in 1994, authorities said Wednesday.
Laura Figueroa, 33, was apprehended by FBI agents in Edinburg, a small Texas town near the Mexican border, on an outstanding warrant in the abduction of her 5-year-old son from Ventura County in 1994, said Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. Denise Payne.
The arrest ended a nearly four-year search for Figueroa by FBI agents and district attorney investigators.
The boy, now 8, has been returned to Ventura County and reunited with his father, whom he has not seen since the abduction. Investigators also are seeking Figueroa’s extradition.
If convicted on child abduction charges, she could face up to three years in state prison.
