It wasn’t just another career milestone for Steve Yzerman.

Yzerman had two assists to move into second place on Detroit’s career list as the Red Wings extended their season-high unbeaten streak to eight with a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night at Detroit.

Yzerman’s 826 assists trail only Gordie Howe’s 1,049 on Detroit’s career list. He passed Alex Delvecchio for second place and now ranks 15th on the NHL list.

“Delvecchio was one of the first players I met when I came here,” Yzerman said. “I have an awful lot of respect for him. I remember my dad speaking fondly of him when I was growing up.”
