Garden Grove Man Hit, Killed by Car
A Garden Grove man died after he walked into traffic and was hit by a car New Year’s Eve, police said Friday.
About 8:30 p.m., Sammy Wayne York, 56, was headed to a market at West Street and Chapman Avenue to buy beer with his adult son, police said. His son suggested he walk home instead, because police were at the store on an unrelated matter and York “was obviously very drunk,” Garden Grove police said.
After his son went inside the store, York walked into traffic on West Street and was hit by a northbound vehicle, police said. York died later of his injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
