A man sitting in a parked car was killed Tuesday when a big rig hit three cars in an East Los Angeles intersection before slamming into his vehicle, crushing it, authorities said.

Paramedics sent to Indiana Street and Olympic Boulevard at 8:30 a.m. pronounced the 25-year-old man dead at the scene, said county Fire Department Inspector Mark Tolbert. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

The truck was southbound on Indiana Street when the chain-reaction crash began.

“The impact caused the big rig to travel into the mini-mall parking lot on the southeast corner,” said Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Partain. “The truck crushed a car the man was sitting in.”

The truck driver was not expected to be arrested, officers said. He and three people in the other vehicles suffered minor injuries, police said.
