Martin Shoots 66 With Cart
After a 4 1/2-hour rain delay, Casey Martin limped to the first tee at Grasslands Country Club and brought cart golf to the Nike Tour.
“They’re saying if I don’t walk, I’ll end 500 years of tradition,” said Martin, who is suing the PGA Tour for the right to drive a cart during competition. “But wouldn’t you want to bend tradition to help somebody with a disability? I would certainly think you would.”
Martin, who suffers from Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, shot a six-under-par 66 in the Lakeland Classic to finish his first round of professional golf one shot behind leader Jay Overton.
