A quick-moving blaze ripped through a single-story house Friday, causing $600,000 damage before firefighters were able to control it, authorities said.

No one was injured in the fire at 18852 Sunnyview Circle. A 61-year-old resident heard a smoke alarm and raced to a neighbor’s home to call for help, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Scott Brown.

The cause of the fire in the four-bedroom home was under investigation Friday. Brown said Dean Richardson, a 19-year resident, was working in a home office when he heard the alarm.

“He left the house, which is the right thing to do, but then he returned to get photographs and other possessions, which we highly discourage,” Brown said.

The 3:15 p.m. fire caused an estimated $400,000 damage to the home and destroyed $200,000 worth of its contents, Brown said.
