TONIGHT’S GAME
LONG BEACH STATE (5-8, 0-1) at UTAH STATE (10-4, 1-0), 6 p.m. PST, KPLS (830)--The videotape of Utah State’s 70-62 win over Pacific on Thursday might help the 49ers because, like Pacific, they have a 7-foot-1 center, Andrew Betts, and, like the Tigers, Long Beach lacks speed. That’s something Utah State has in abundance. The Aggies start no one taller than 6-6 center Donnie Johnson and get most of their offense from Marcus Saxon, Kevin Rice and Justin Jones, all of whom are 6-3. Long Beach has lost two games in a row. The 49ers are the last Big West team to beat Utah State in the Spectrum, 71-50, on Feb. 17, 1996. At home, the Aggies are 11-0 against the league and 23-2 overall since then.
