Share

A gunman shot and critically wounded a woman, then tried to rape her co-worker at a printing business, police said Saturday.

The women were working at Lanier Copy Print, 18241 W. McDurmott, when the man accosted one of them in the back of the warehouse about 9 p.m. Friday, Irvine Police Sgt. Jim Broomfield said.

He forced her into a nearby office, where they encountered the second woman, police said.

Apparently startled, the man shot the second woman in the shoulder and head, then tried to rape the first woman, Police Sgt. Susan Davis said.

The suspect fled in a dark-colored sedan, which police say may be a Nissan Altima. The first woman called for help, and when police arrived they found the gunshot victim unconscious.

She was in extremely grave condition and on life-support Saturday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

A man at the business where the shooting occurred declined to comment Saturday.

The suspect was described as black, in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 9 inches with a medium build. He has medium skin tone, clear complexion and no facial hair.

He wore a gray and white T-shirt with 2-inch horizontal stripes, a gray zipper-front sweatshirt, bluejeans and a black watch cap, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Irvine Police Det. Larry Montgomery at (714) 724-7173.
