Loss of Baby at Birth Keeps Bylsma Off Ice

Forward Dan Bylsma did not dress for Tuesday night’s game against the Calgary Flames because of the premature death of the first child born to him and wife Mary Beth last week.

“We’ve experienced the loss of our little baby girl, we had a stillbirth,” Bylsma said. “We appreciate the love and support we’ve received from the [King organization]. . . . There will be a memorial service back home in Michigan over the Olympic break.”

Bylsma, 27, has played in 32 games this season with two goals and seven points.

With the NHL shutting down because of the Olympic break beginning Feb. 8, the Kings will host a special event Feb. 15 at the Great Western Forum, featuring the live broadcast of the United States versus Canada Olympic hockey game.

An alumni game featuring past Kings, Vancouver Canucks and various celebrities will start the event at 8 p.m., with the Olympic game scheduled to begin at 9:30. Fans also will get an opportunity to look at the Stanley Cup, which will be on display throughout the evening.

Admission is $6 and parking is free.

The Kings’ scratches against the Flames were defensemen Philippe Boucher, who has dressed only twice in the last nine games, and Doug Zmolek, and forwards Steve McKenna and Bylsma. . . . Josh Green, a left wing playing for Fredericton of the American Hockey League, has five goals and nine points in 10 games since he was promoted from the junior level.
