Once, he defeated Denver for a championship, playing defensive back for San Francisco (Super Bowl XXIV, 49ers 55, Broncos 10.)

Tim McKyer is a Bronco now. McKyer says he will never forget 49er quarterback Joe Montana’s address to the team before that 1990 game against Denver.

“Joe gets up and says, ‘I’m tired of all this Bill Walsh stuff! How we can’t do it without him! Well, we are blankety-blank going to do it again!’

“And it was blankety-blank this, and blankety-blank that! You should have heard that language! He was F’ing this, and F’ing that. And I’m going to myself, ‘Joe? Joe Montana, that you? Talking like that?’

“And danged if we didn’t win it again.”

Induct Favre Now campaign (Part I):

Bronco defensive back Tyrone Braxton: “If there’s a guy who should be put in the Hall of Fame while he’s still playing, it should be him.”

On registering at a hotel under an assumed name, Denver’s Terrell Davis will admit only: “I do it everywhere. I can’t tell you the name I use, but it’s funny. It’s catchy.”

Could it be . . . ?

“John Smith?” “John Elway?” “Terrell Elway?” “John Terrellway?” “Bronco Davis?” “Bronco Nagurski?” “Packer Nagurski?” “Billy Packer?” “Bronco Billy?” “Supe R. Bowlen?” “Sam Diego?” “Kerry A. Ball?” “Terrell Tagliabue?” “The Running Back Formerly Known as Terrell Elway?”

Terrell won’t tell.

According to the Milwaukee Journal and Sentinel:

* Robert Redford, actor, director and honorary cheesehead, has agreed to attend an October film festival at the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial celebration in the state capital of Madison, to accept the state’s first Cheesehead Award.

The idea originated at a party held in Los Angeles last fall by the Wisconsin Film Office . . . a tailgate party.

* Klement’s Sausage Co. of Wisconsin is donating 50 cents to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic for every pound of bratwurst sold from now until the Super Bowl.

* According to Meg Kissinger of the Journal Sentinel, Elway said of the Broncos, “We’ve come full circle, 180 degrees.”

* According to columnist Kathy Flanigan of the Journal Sentinel, Favre went to the Belly Up bar in “Solano Beach”--it’s Solana--on Monday night, and “it didn’t take a detective to see football’s three-time MVP shaking his talented bottom on stage with a young woman on each side of him.”

Flanigan adds, “Solano [sic] sits about 25 minutes north of San Diego . . . throngs of hip, fashion-savvy and painfully thin twentysomethings willing to pay the $6 cover charge seemed oblivious to the star power inside: Favre. Mark Chmura. Frank Winters. Steve Bono.”

Yes, imagine hip Southern Californians being unhip to star power such as that.
